Micro Pumps for Medical Devices
Pinmotor supplies micro pumps for medical devices that require air pressure, vacuum generation or controlled liquid transfer.
The product range includes micro diaphragm air pumps, mini vacuum pumps, diaphragm water pumps and mini peristaltic pumps for OEM medical equipment. Typical projects include blood pressure monitors, pneumatic compression systems, diagnostic instruments, laboratory analyzers and compact suction equipment.
Choose a Micro Pump by Medical Device Function
Different pump structures serve different parts of a medical device. Selecting the pump category first avoids comparing models that perform different functions.

Maximum pump output should not be treated as the normal system operating point. Tubing, valves, filters, chambers and other restrictions change the actual flow, pressure or vacuum after installation.
Where Are Micro Pumps Used in Medical Devices?

Blood Pressure Monitoring
A blood pressure monitor uses a small air pump to inflate the cuff before the measurement and controlled exhaust begins.
For this application, pump selection depends mainly on cuff volume, target pressure and required inflation time. Portable monitors also place limits on pump dimensions, weight, current consumption and installed noise.
The air pump should be tested together with the cuff, tubing and exhaust valve because free-flow data alone cannot predict cuff inflation time.
Recommended pump type: 3v Mini air pump
Respiratory and Air Supply Equipment
Some compact respiratory and air-management devices require a continuous or longer-duration air supply rather than a short inflation cycle.
In these systems, the normal operating airflow is only one part of the selection. Motor temperature, duty cycle, current consumption and output stability during extended operation also need to be checked.
A larger pump is not automatically better. Oversizing can increase power demand, occupied space and acoustic output without improving the required operating point.
Recommended pump type: 12V high pressure air pump

Pneumatic Compression Equipment
Pneumatic compression equipment fills one or more air chambers in a programmed sequence.
Compared with a blood pressure cuff, these systems may have a larger total chamber volume and repeated inflation cycles. Pump capacity therefore depends on chamber size, number of chambers, target pressure and the time allowed for each inflation stage.
Where rapid active deflation is required, the pneumatic circuit can combine an air pump, vacuum pump and solenoid valve rather than relying only on passive exhaust.
Recommended pump types:
Diagnostic Analyzers
Diagnostic instruments can contain several different fluid or pneumatic functions inside one machine.
A vacuum pump may be used for gas sampling or aspiration. An air pump can provide positive pressure for pneumatic control. Liquid circuits may use diaphragm water pumps or peristaltic pumps depending on whether the liquid passes through the pump or remains inside tubing.
For analyzer projects, the pump should be selected around the specific circuit rather than around the equipment name alone.
Information such as sample volume, tubing length, filter resistance, test frequency and working medium is normally required before a model can be matched.
Recommended pump types:
● Small Diaphragm Vacuum Pump

Laboratory Analyzers
Laboratory analyzers may require pumps for reagent movement, sample transfer, washing, flushing or waste-liquid removal.
A peristaltic pump keeps the transferred liquid inside the tubing. This arrangement is useful when the fluid path needs to be replaced without opening the pump head to the liquid.
A diaphragm water pump uses an internal pump chamber and is more suitable for compatible washing or flushing liquids where higher transfer volume is required.
The choice between the two therefore depends on the liquid path, required volume and maintenance method rather than simply comparing flow rates.
Recommended pump types:
● Mini Peristaltic Pump 12v
Compact Suction and Vacuum Devices
A mini vacuum pump generates negative pressure for compact suction, evacuation or aspiration circuits.
The main engineering values are working vacuum and extraction flow at the actual system resistance. Evacuation time can also be important when a chamber needs to reach its working vacuum within a specified period.
Filters, long tubing and leakage can reduce system performance. The pump should therefore be evaluated in the final pneumatic circuit instead of being selected only from maximum vacuum data.
Recommended pump type: Compact 24V Vacuum Pump

What to Confirm Before Selecting a Medical Equipment Pump
Working Point
Provide the pressure or vacuum required while the device is operating, together with the required flow at that condition.
For pneumatic equipment, chamber volume and target inflation or evacuation time are also useful.
Electrical and Operating Cycle
Confirm rated DC voltage, current limitations and how the pump operates during one normal device cycle.
A pump running for ten seconds at a time should not be evaluated in the same way as a pump expected to run for several hours.
Installation and Air or Liquid Path
Provide the available pump space, mounting direction, tube size and inlet/outlet layout.
For liquid applications, also identify the medium, viscosity, temperature and any material compatibility requirements.
Device-Level Noise
Noise should be checked after installation. Motor speed, pump structure, mounting, tubing, enclosure resonance and system load can all change the sound measured from the finished device.
If the project has a specified noise limit, provide the measurement distance and operating condition with the requirement.
Pump Testing and Validation
Pinmotor uses dedicated production and inspection equipment for micro pumps, motors and valves. For medical equipment projects, the available test method should be matched to the function of the selected pump.

Airflow, Pressure and Vacuum
The Air Pump Comprehensive Tester is used to check airflow output, pressure consistency and pump operating performance.
Vacuum pump models are evaluated against the vacuum and extraction requirements specified for the project.

Air Tightness
The Air Tightness Tester is used to check leakage in pump and valve products.
This is particularly relevant for pneumatic circuits where leakage changes inflation time, holding pressure or vacuum performance.

Temperature and Operating Stability
High and Low Temperature Test Chambers are available for environmental evaluation.
For long-running or repeated-cycle applications, sample testing can also be used to check temperature rise and operating stability under the intended duty
cycle.

Dimensiocnal Inspection
A Two-Dimensional Measurement Instrument is used for dimensional and alignment checks of components.
For customized projects, the approved drawing, ports, wiring and connector arrangement should be confirmed before production.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What information should I send for medical equipment pump selection?
A: Provide the equipment application, required pump function, working pressure or vacuum, flow, voltage, duty cycle, available installation space and working medium. Chamber volume or required inflation and evacuation time should also be provided for pneumatic equipment.
Q: Should I select the pump with the highest flow or pressure?
A: No. The pump should be selected around the required operating point of the equipment. A pump that is much larger than required may use more power and occupy more space without improving the system.
Q: Can Pinmotor provide samples before mass production?
A: Yes. Sample evaluation is recommended before the production configuration is approved. The pump should be installed in the actual equipment or a representative circuit for testing.
Q: Can voltage, wires and connectors be changed?
A: Depending on the pump platform, rated voltage, wire length, connector type, port arrangement and mounting structure can be reviewed for OEM projects.
Q: Can I download pump datasheets and drawings?
A: Available technical documents are organized in the Downloads & Datasheets section. Because customized versions may differ from the standard model, confirm the complete model number before using a drawing for equipment design.
Q: Are Pinmotor pumps certified medical devices?
A: Pinmotor pumps are supplied as components for OEM equipment. Quality-management certificates and product compliance reports do not constitute medical-device certification for the final equipment.
